Fashion Vs. Sport @ The V&A

Another very delayed visit to an exhibition the other day after the Duffy gig at Brixton Academy (photos on the way!), despite being open since summer, I decided it was about time I checked out the Fashion Vs. Sport exhibition at London's V&A Museum, which celebrates the ongoing relationship between contemporary fashion and sportswear.

Although it was relatively small, it included contributions from iconic fashion designers Vivienne Westwood, Chanel and Prada as well as new designers which are influenced by street style and urban culture such as Cassette Playa, above.

It also included the obvious collaborations between Adidas and Stella McCartney as well as individually customised branded products such as I-Saw’s hand-engraved Nike trainers.

Definately worth a look, though you'll have to make a space in your diary quick - it finishes on the 4th Jan!

Green Plaid Coat...

One of the many blogs I read is Stylesight's ingeniusly entitled 'Stylesightings' which regularly features entries from eddie - the author's - hometown of the wonderful New York - which just happens to be my favourite city in the world. My favourites of his entries frequently feature gorgeous New Yorkers with some serious style.

My fave today? A fun combination of layering involving Mickey Mouse, checks, colour and just the most gorgeous coat! Layered, green plaid - I'm guessing customised? Gorgeous!

Let me know what you think!

Stylees Project @ The Photographer's Gallery

I have a not-so-secret love for people who dress for themselves. Who take minutes, hours or days out of their lives to pose in front of the mirror, try on six different outfits, change their accessories double that number of times, until they finally decide that they are ready.

Fashion photographer and artist Othello De'Souza-Hartley celebrates just this with his new two day exhibition at The Photographer's Gallery (16-18 Ramillies Street, W1) in London on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December, snapping those blessed with sartorial style and those who simply take risks, dare to look different and embrace their individuality. Check it out!

The Sunday Times: Vintage Shopping Online!

Just when we thought ZsuZsi Boutique had launched at the perfect time - an article in The Sunday Times Style magazine has confirmed we were right on the money!

"Here’s an idea. Why don’t they put vintage on the Internet?
Well, now they have, and, lo and behold, our latest addiction has suddenly
become trawling the web for one-off finds".

Though they haven't discovered our little haven of vintage joy quite yet, but in
the mean time they offered some worthy competitors for you to have a peek at for
all your vintage shopping needs and budgets!

" Basically, Hoxton online. A little pricey, but guaranteed good condition, with a wide selection that’s well edited. Search by decade — clever — for some real stunners. Prices range from the reasonable to the ridiculous, and you’ll also find some cool new designers on sale here. Specialising in 1960s and 1970s rock’n’roll boutique finds. So that’s yer Biba, yer Ossie Clarke and yer Bill Gibb sorted. Photographed on real people, too".

AA Afrika

Always one for some American Apparel love, I have only just stumbled upon their Afrika collection (I know I'm a little late, getting ZsuZsi launched has left too little time to do my favourite things including taking in as much lovely fashion news and gossip as possible!) I love the prints - especially the Red and Black leggings, £26, above.

Let me know what you think!

British Style Genius: Loud and Proud

Even US Vogue's Editor Anna Wintour (known by most as the most influential person in fashion) recognises the creative street style looks that make London's fashion look so distinctive - mixing urban culture, creativity and vintage - with a hell of a lot of fun!

These are the looks that not only influences other uber stylish people like your good selves but the high fashion elite, the designers themselves. British Style Genius - the brilliant new series on the BBC celebrates British style for what it is and looks at the issues effecting today's industry, including the democracy of fashion and my personal favourite, "Loud and Proud: The Street Look", including the leading online trend forecasting company WGSN's take on just how influential it is. Definately worth a watch.

Backless Love

Having recently become the proud owner of just the most delicious dress quite possibly ever made (though this seems to be a common phrase in my vocabulary...) it seems I am embracing the backless look du jour. Hence when I came across this sequined Topshop Ashish number (definitely a magpie in a previous life) I. Fell. In. Love. Oh, the backless v neck...oh, the sequins...oh, the colours. All very brash. All very 80's. Love at first sight...

The Queen of Fashion - Gok!

On the very same day as my surprise visit to see the Annie Leibovitz Exhibition, not only did we see (or at least we were pretty sure it was) the Queen coming out of Buckingham Palace in a horse and carriage as we were walking to the exhibition but whilst sitting outside having lunch at a cute little (delicious) sandwich place in Soho, my companion for the day said, 'Ok fashionista, do you think this guy is trying a bit too hard? Overstyled?' to which I looked over my shoulder only to see...Gok Wan! The very Queen of fashion himself!

The funniest part of it was that my friend did actually think Gok's friend was overstyled (have to say I agree) and didn't notice Gok until he was literally walking right next to us. No piccie's this time though - I was unprepared!

Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer's Life, 1990-2005

As a wonderful surprise, I ended up at the National Portrait Gallery in London on Friday to see the new exhibition entitled 'Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer's Life, 1990-2005', which documents the New York-based (I like her already) portrait photographer's life through a selected number of photographs from both her professional and personal collection.

I have to say with a love of photography (though no skills as of yet), I really enjoyed it. If you don't know of her you will have probably stumbled across her work at some point - she is best known for her work for Vanity Fair, Vogue and Rolling Stone Magazine and her work with public figures such as George Bush as well as celebrities such as a theatrical Nicole Kidman and a landscape, simplistic black and white Al Pacino portrait, as well as what is probably her most well known work - a naked portrait of the heavily pregnant Demi Moore. I also found out she took the last professional photograph of John Lennon for the cover of Rolling Stone just five hours before he was shot and killed.

My personal favourites included Johnny Cash and his family on his porch - just for naturalness and colour and an awesome panoramic view from the skies over Jordan.

I read somewhere that her work has been described as too staged, contrived even. My personal opinion is that, yes that is her style however, I think the beauty of the exhibition was in the contrast of these staged, theatrical photographs, with the intimate photographs of her personal life depicting everything from the birth of her children to the death of both her father and her close friend Susan Sontag.

Whatever your opinion, I highly recommend you check it out - it's on until the 1st February 2009.
